Problem

Encoding, decoding, hashing, and basic cipher inspection often require switching between separate utilities or sending sample data to a third-party website. For practice, CTF-style puzzles, and everyday analysis, that fragments a simple workflow and can make local data handling less clear.

How it works

Ghostwire provides a Python standard-library CLI alongside a static browser interface. It supports common encodings, hash generation and identification, JWT decoding, text utilities, classical ciphers, and local ciphertext recovery methods such as Caesar and single-byte XOR analysis. The browser tools perform their work client-side, while the CLI accepts arguments or standard input for composable command-line use.

Impact

The project keeps routine transformations and analysis in one local-first toolkit: no account, telemetry, or remote target is required. Its recovery features are deliberately constrained to user-supplied ciphertext and classical-cipher techniques, making the scope clear for learning and puzzle-solving workflows.

Future direction

Future improvements could add more input formats, clearer export options, and additional explanations for how each transformation or recovery result was derived.
